Opera Theatre: 'The Ransom of Sophia'
Augustana Performing and Visual Arts presents the Augustana Opera Theatre’s one-act comic opera, “The Ransom of Sophia,” by Callie Stadem '13. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, in Kresge Recital Hall.
Tickets are $5 for adults and seniors (65+) and free for students K-12 and those with an Augie ID. Purchase tickets online at www.augietickets.com.
Loosely based on O. Henry's short story, "The Ransom of Red Chief,” the opera opens as Sam and Bill successfully kidnap Sophia and hope to gain a quick $50,000 ransom from her family, the Dorsets. Unfortunately, the Dorsets have no interest in gaining Sophia’s release. In fact, they order the kidnappers to pay them to take her back! The hilarity ensues as the game “Assassins” takes over the stage and ... well, do the Dorsets get their money, or do Sam and Bill keep Sophia? Join us to find out!
The cast, directed by Dr. Lisa Grevlos, includes:
- Mezzo soprano Lauren Sandison as Sam
- Baritone Coleman Peterson as Bill
- Soprano Taylor Mileham as Sophia
- Tenor Caleb Timmerman and mezzo soprano Katy Price play Ted and Alice Dorset
