In the exhibition “Stories I Tell Myself,” artist Jessica Boehman presents a lyrical group of drawings and illustrations that weave myth, fairy tales and autobiography. “I take art and put it into the service of narrative,” notes Boehman. As a child, she lived for several years in Germany, where her love of mythology and traditional fairytales was cultivated. Much of her artwork seeks to apply the magic of those fairytales to daily life and overlooked elements of the natural world. Her delicate renderings in pencil, colored pencil, and watercolor go beyond merely retelling common narratives. Her invocations of fairytales become deep meditations on longing, loss, sickness, and the strength and beauty that can be found through personal struggles.

View this exhibit at Augustana's Eide/Dalrymple Gallery from Thursday, Feb. 14, through Saturday, March 23. The gallery reception was Friday, Feb. 15.
