CWS Exhibit: “Images of Place: Paintings and Poems”

The artwork of Gary Steinley and the poetry of David Allan Evans, South Dakota’s Poet Laureate, are displayed at the Center for Western Studies (CWS) in an exhibit entitled Images of Place: Paintings and Poems.

Augustana officially begins the 2009-10 academic year with an Opening Convocation at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, in the Elmen Center. Dr. Julie Ashworth, Assistant Professor of Education, is the featured speaker.

Augustana Hosts Emporia State in Kirkeby-Over Stadium Grand Opening

For the first time in 51 years, the Augustana football team (1-0) will play a home game on campus when the Vikings entertain the Emporia State Hornets (1-0) in the grand opening of Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Football is returning to Augustana’s campus for the first time since the 1956 season and the Vikings are ready to show off their new home. All are welcome to join in celebrating the opening of Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

Augustana will co-host the Jennie Finch Softball Camp in Sioux Falls, conducted by two-time Olympian Jennie Finch and some of her Olympic teammates Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, at Harmodon Park.

The final episode of the PBS series Time Team America features Augustana College's Dr. Adrien Hannus as the archeologists' team leader. Tonight they explore the site of Fort James that is located south of Mitchell, SD on the property of the Rockport Hutterite Colony.

Augustana College, which offers a major in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, is hosting the Midwest Conference on Deaf Education, July 19-21. The mission of the conference is to provide professional development opportunities to individuals who work with deaf and hard of hearing youth.
