Administrative Overload Policy

All employees defined as administrators are hired to perform administrative functions. Occasionally, because of their advance education or professional expertise, they are called upon to teach a course at Augustana College. If the individual chooses to teach the course, the administrator's supervisor or appropriate Vice President must approve it.

Whenever possible, appropriate allowances will be made in regular duties to prevent overload conditions. However, in some cases, with the approval of the administrator, the supervisor, and the appropriate Vice President, Augustana will consider the teaching of a course by an administrator an overload situation and additional compensation will be issued.

The request for an administrator to teach a course should be made in writing to the appropriate Vice President by the department chair. If approval is given, the President will issue an appointment letter outlining specific conditions and compensation for teaching the course.
