Personal Pages
Definition
Personal pages are those pages created by individuals--faculty, students,
or staff--to share less formal, more personal information. Any individual
who is entitled to an account on Augustana's system may have a personal
home page. Informal campus groups may create pages for their groups. These
group pages will be considered personal pages.
Links from the Augustana web site to personal (faculty, staff and student) web pages
may be removed from the listing 3 months after individuals leave Augustana.
Augustana does not support individual entrepreneurial undertakings that make
use of Augustana web sites. Augustana does not support the hosting of third
party domains.
Individuals should keep in mind that the World Wide Web is a global
network. Information published on a home page is available to anyone with
access to the WWW; if information is best limited to a specific group,
e-mail or some other avenue may be more appropriate.

Recommendations
- compliance with the HTML 4.0 standard (transitional) as verified by a validation
service
- Use relative URLs for internal links when constructing pages. Transferring
sites/pages is much easier with relative URLs because it isn't necessary to
change every link within a site/page.
- Check the pages with a variety of computers and browsers. Colors
vary from PCs to Macs, as well as on different monitors. Early versions
of browsers may not display tables, support frames, or align images and text
as you had intended.
- As a rule of thumb, try to keep the total size of a page/document including
images under 60kb. Slow connections due to modems or congestion on the
Internet make it frustrating to wait for a large page to load.

Student personal pages on Augustana servers will reside on student.augie.edu.
Faculty
and
staff personal pages will reside on faculty.augie.edu.
