The Augustana WWW Committee encourages all academic and administrative units as well as student organizations and individuals to help enhance Augustana's Web Presence by identifying useful information to add to the site. While basic information, such as that contained in the college catalog, will be maintained by the Web Coordinator(s), other pages will be designed, created, and maintained by departments, organizations, and individuals. These guidelines, drafted and approved by the Augustana WWW Committee, provide basic information for departments/individuals working on pages for Augustana.
Augustana College's web server(s) provide a medium for Augustana departments, groups and individuals to publish information, viewpoints, research interests/results, and other creative efforts. Augustana's official web site shall provide current, relevant, and accurate information to the Augustana community and visitors to the Augustana web site. In addition, the site will promote the college as a private Lutheran higher education institution whose goal is to equip students for a life of career, service and continuing enrichment. Pages designed to market services for direct personal gain, fund-raising, or advertising for commercial or non-commercial organizations not related to Augustana College are not allowed on Augustana's web servers. The WWW Committee reserves the right to review all requests for space for a home page on the campus servers.
The existing campus computer use policy states that use of computing facilities to send obscene or abusive messages or the use of obscene or abusive file names is prohibited. This computer use policy applies to web pages on Augustana's servers. Individuals who believe the content of specific web pages is obscene or abusive may submit the objections to the Web Coordinator (webmaster@augie.edu), giving the complete URL for the pages(s) and describing specifically what on the page they find obscene or abusive. All complaints will be reviewed by the WWW Committee. Users will not be denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally protected speech. No user will be denied without formal notification and a chance for appeal.
