Alternatives to Printers
There are 3 alternatives when a CX printer is not available or not appropriate. There are 2 options that will direct the output to an email message. They are ‘email’ and ‘attachme’. The third option is called ‘screen’ and will direct the output to a window on the PC. email The specified file will be sent in the body of the email message. In GroupWise, the body of a message uses proportional spacing and the columns in reports will not be aligned. The email message can be saved to a file and then opened with a program (Word, Excel, WordPad, Notepad, etc) and the column formats restored. attachme The specified file will be sent as an attachment to an email message. In GroupWise, OPEN the attachment rather than VIEW the attachment, then you will have the ability to manipulate the file. The file has an extension of ‘.tx’ so, at least the first time; you will have a choice of programs to use to open the file. screen The specified output file will be sent to a window in whatever the output viewer is setup on the PC. WordPad is the preferred output viewer and then windows functions are available: like cut, paste, find, save, print.
