Printer Troubleshooting

Here are steps to follow when a CX printer isn’t working:

1) The person can begin with these steps from the Utilities menu.

a) Display Spooler Status (lpc -P <printername>) - check what the problem may be
b) Reset Printer (lpreset <printername>)
c) Idle Printer (lpc -P <printername> -i)
d) Start Printer (lpc -P <printername> -s)
e) Display Spooler Status (lpc -P <printername>) - check if problem has disappeared

2) If the printer is still not working:
· cycle the power off/on to the mini-printer hub (if one exists), or;
· cycle the power off/on to the netport box, or;
· cycle the power off/on to the printer itself.

3) Execute step 1) again. Depending on what the person is trying to print you may or may not have to execute the Start Printer option.

4) The option Clear Form Type may be necessary if someone forgot to remove a previous setting.
The form type of IGNORE_FORMTYPE will allow any form to print. This is generally the default form type setting that is loaded.

NOTE: Start Printer executes a lpd command. This process will hang for some reason and the only way we know to clear it is to cycle the power to the hub or netport box.
