What kind of computer should I bring to Augustana?
At Augustana we have a variety of systems in our labs including Windows PC's and Macintosh computers. If you are bringing a computer to school Mac or PC is your choice. If you are considering Graphic Design the Art Department recommends that your puchase be a Mac.
Augustana does not require that you bring a laptop computer to campus, but if you choose to bring one we STRONGLY recommend that you purchase one of our recommended systems. By purchasing one of these recommended notebook computers through our preferred vendors you will have access to on-campus service and support during your time at Augustana. If you do not purchase your system through one of the links below the HelpDesk can provide only limited service and there may be a charge.

Below are our minimum recommendations for a computer.
PC – Minimum computer specifications
• Windows XP
• at least a Pentium IV, Centrino or Celeron 2 Ghz processor
• 512 MB RAM
• Integrated 10/100 ethernet
• 1Gig of available hard drive space
Macintosh - Minimum computer specifications
• Mac OSX
• 512 MB physical RAM
• Integrated 10/100/1000 ethernet
• 1 Gig of available hard drive space
Wireless access is available in the Mikkelsen Library, the Huddle, lounges in each academic building and the main lounge in each residence hall. This year we are recommending that students consider bringing laptop computers with integrated wireless networking (WiFi) installed along with the traditional Ethernet adapter.
What about virus protection?
You will need to have current virus protection to connect to Augustana's network. As you student you are allowed to use our license for Symantec Antivirus software at no cost. Instructions for downloading and installing Symantec will be available when you move in to the residence hall.
