The Computer Help Desk staff is available to help with problems you might have while setting up your computer. If you have problems you can call us at 274-5331 or you can bring your computer to the Madsen Center and we will help you set it up. Our hours during semester are Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 7:00; Friday 8:00 - 5:00.
To successfully connect to our network you will need to have current virus protection. (We recommend Symantec which is available to students at no cost.) You will also need to have Windows Automatic Updates turned on and Windows service pack 2 installed.
We have prepared a set of on-screen instructions that will lead you through this process. But before you can do any of this, you will need to ……
1. Find the Network Cables
Both occupants of the room will need to get a blue cable from the helpdesk. Keep this blue cable and use it each year.
2. Find the Network Jack
There are two jacks (blue and red) that are active in all of the rooms. This is also the place where the cable TV jacks can be located (the top jack being for Midco cable and the bottom being for standard TV).
3. Get Connected
Connect one end of the network cable to the jack in the room and the other end to the Ethernet port (looks like a fat phone jack) on the computer. After getting the network cable plugged in, open up a web browser. At this point, the computer will be redirected to a Cisco Clean Access login page. Login to the system using the same user name and password you were given for your Augustana e-mail account. Follow the instructions on the screen to download the Cisco Clean Access client and get your computer connected to the internet. You may be directed to update your virus protection or run Windows Updates. Just follow the instructions on the screen.
