Complete statistics are available in the 2001 South Dakota Vital Statistics Report (Ref. RA151.V7 2001) which is only available in hard copy. This report will also give leading causes of death information for SD and SD counties. The most current data on leading causes of death for the U.S. can be found using the WISQARS Leading Causes of Deaths Reports, 1999-2000 from the CDC, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control web site.
Note: Beginning with the 1999 data, major changes in data collection and calculation were instituted nationally and in South Dakota. These changes resulted in increases or decreases in many health rates and make comparisons with previous years data inaccurate and unreliable. Check this site for more information.
