SIOUX FALLS – Augie Green earned runner-up honors in the Do You Dream in Green competition at the 2008 Plain Green Conference held at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.
Entered in the Plain Action category, Augie Green won $300 for its submission titled “The Green Initiative.” Augie Green will implement the program by visiting schools in Sioux Falls and discussing environmental awareness and sustainability practices with students.
“We hope to make them more informed and involved as citizens of the community and the future generation to be in charge of caring for our planet,” says Jamie Horter, a senior from Bristol, S.D., and president of Augie Green. “We also hope to work with schools in implementing environmental practices and topics into daily activities and curriculum.”
To enter the Plain Action category, participants were required to write an original statement about how their environmental action, design solution, or innovation (engineering, interior, landscape, architectural or environmental) will build awareness about sustainability and address an environment and/or social problem.
Augie Green is a campus organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and action to students and the community. Augie Green upholds the values of grassroots democracy, social justice, nonviolence, and environmental sustainability.
