Six Elected to Augustana Board of Trustees

SIOUX FALLS – Delegates to the annual meeting of the Augustana Association have elected six Augustana alums to serve on the College’s Board of Trustees.
The Augustana Association consists of member congregations in the South Dakota, Western Iowa, Southwestern Minnesota, and Nebraska synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Association is responsible for electing members to serve on the Board of Trustees.
Joining the Board for three-year terms beginning in 2009 are Dr. Mike Olson, Sioux Falls; Tom Davis, Sioux Falls; Laurel Prieb, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Brad Twedt, Warrenville, Ill; Lois Van Dam Martin, Little Canada, Minn.; and James Odland, Apple Valley, Minn.
Dr. Mike Olson graduated from Augustana in 1972. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and is a family practice physician with Sanford Health. His wife, Debra Hovda Olson, graduated from Augustana in 1973 and served 12 years on the Board of Trustees. The Olsons are the parents of two children.
Tom Davis graduated from Augustana in 1983. He is the president of Zimmer-Davis, Inc., an orthopedic supply company providing joints and other materials to orthopedic surgeons and hospitals around the nation. Tom and his wife are the parents of three sons.
Laurel Prieb graduated from Augustana in 1977. He is vice president, Western Operations and Special Projects, for Major League Baseball. He began his career in professional sports as a student intern with the Boston Celtics in 1976. He worked for the Minnesota Twins until 1991, and spent 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers. Laurel and his wife, Wendy, live in Scottsdale, Ariz., with their daughter, Natalie.
Brad Twedt graduated from Augustana in 1982. He currently serves in an advisory capacity to firm management at Smith Barney as Divisional Counsel. After graduating from law school, Brad became affiliated with and later a partner in the Neal-Gerber-Eisenberg firm in Chicago. He later joined Smith Barney. Brad and his wife ReJean have one daughter, Rachel, and live in suburban Chicago. He is the son of Carol Twedt, who is also a graduate of Augustana currently serving as a Minnehaha County Commissioner.
Lois Van Dam Martin graduated from Augustana in 1985. She was recently named one of the top female business executives in Minnesota. After earning her degree in business administration and accounting, she joined Coopers and Lybrand, where she earned her CPA designation. She also worked for Carlson Companies, Deluxe Corporation, and World Data Products prior to joining Capella Company, parent of Capella University, where she has been senior vice president and chief financial officer since 2004.
James M. Odland graduated from Augustana in 1977. He is vice president and managing counsel with Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis. His entire career has been dedicated to representing financial service companies, primarily in the areas of life insurance, annuities, health insurance and investment products. Jim and his wife, Sonja Devick Odland, who graduated from Augustana in 1978, are the parents of two daughters.
Board members re-elected to serve three-year terms are Dennis Anderson, Sioux Falls; Becky Blue, Sioux Falls; Danae Delman, Alexandria, Va.; George Kapplinger, Frisco, Texas; Bill Lindquist, Sioux Falls; and Karen Pfeifer, Worthington, Minn.
