SIOUX FALLS – Three Augustana graduates were awarded the top honor in their field at the 2009 YWCA Tribute to Women.
They are June Peterson Larson, class of 1975, Chair of the Nursing Department at the University of South Dakota; Kristine Kreiter O’Connell, class of 1979, a partner in the law firm of Woods Fuller Schultz and Smith; and Amy Jorgensen Sumner, class of 1987, director of the Children’s Miracle Network.
Also nominated was Jan Haugen-Rogers, a 2005 graduate of the Master’s in Nursing program and vice president of Children’s Services at Sanford USD Medical Center.
In 1974, a group of women led by Sylvia Henkin and Marlene Billion reflected on the contribution of women in the community. Their vision became the YWCA Leader Luncheon, now known as Tribute to Women.
This year the YWCA celebrated 36 years of recognizing women’s contributions to the civic, economic, educational, and cultural of the Sioux Falls community.
