SIOUX FALLS, SD - Construction began recently on a multi-phased housing renovation on the north edge of the Augustana College campus in Sioux Falls.
The 1960s era twin 8-story student housing units Granskou and Stavig will be receiving the facelift, designed by Koch Hazard Architects. The first phase will be roof replacement for both dorms, and life safety upgrades for Granskou as well as an elevator renovation, and upgrades to the entrance lobby areas.
Resulting from a residential master plan completed in 2008 by Koch Hazard Architects, the project addresses current expectations and college education and socialization goals in student housing facilities.
“The buildings just needed to be updated. They haven’t been renovated since being built almost 40 years ago,” said Tom Meyer, Vice President of Finance at Augustana College.
The current phase mostly consists of necessary infrastructure work. Granskou’s lobby will, however, be nicely renovated with this project.
