Wednesday, December 9, 2009
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The premier performance of a professional choir will include two Augustana alums.
The South Dakota Chorale debuts December 18 and 19 in Sioux Falls and Brandon. Performances are 7:30 p.m. December 18 at First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, and 7:30 p.m. December 19 at Brandon Lutheran Church.
Augustana alums Deanna Levsen Wehrspann, class of 1980, and Tami Anderson Hayzlett, class of 1983, auditioned and were selected to sing as part of the 20-voice chamber choir.
“We are delighted to have these Augie Choir alumni in such a select group of singers, and are inspired by their energy to help us bring professional choral music to the Sioux Falls Area,” said Brian Schmidt, artistic director and founder of the South Dakota Chorale.
The choir weaves together talented singers in the Sioux Falls area with other professional singers from around the country. “We believe the South Dakota Chorale can become a crossroads where the great singers in our region can make music and interact with professionals like them from around the country,” Schmidt said.
The two concerts will feature some of the most beautiful Christmas music written for choirs, along with the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah performed with similar forces to Handel’s premier in 1742.
