Al Schock, 89, who served 12 years on the Augustana College Board of Regents, died December 27, 2009, of complications from cancer. Schock’s longtime association with Augustana included gifts of time, leadership, and financial support.

Four alumni from various parts of the country were recently recognized for achievements in their respective careers. Their education at Augustana prepared them for successful careers in coaching, politics, church ministry, and nursing.

Students are headed home for the holidays, but prior to the campus shutting down, and while they were preparing for final exams, students and staff took the time to make sure those less fortunate would experience some joy this Christmas.

A transition from sprawling open spaces to a teaming city awaits sophomore Lauren Stephens. Stephens will spend next semester studying with the School for International Training’s Community Health and Social Policy Program in Durban, South Africa.

Stan Krebs, who graduated from Augustana in 1975, has joined the College’s Office of Development as director of major gifts. Krebs will be based in the Twin Cities, working with current donors and cultivating prospective donors.

Augustana's Dr. Mike Wanous challenged his Genetics students to compete in raising money to combat poverty in the world. At semester's end, the team that raised the most money would be able to "do whatever they wanted" with Dr. Wanous' hair.

Augustana alums Deanna Levsen Wehrspann, class of 1980, and Tami Anderson Hayzlett, class of 1983, auditioned and were selected to sing in the premier performance of the 20-voice chamber choir South Dakota Chorale.
