Baseball Fever Hits the Augustana Campus

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The start of the 2010 baseball season is intertwined with several baseball-themed campus events during the month of April.

April is Mathematics Awareness Month, and the Mathematical Association of America has designated Math and Sports as the theme. On Thursday, April 1, the Augustana Mathematics Department is hosting Dr. James Case, who will speak on Baseball as a Game of Strategy at 10 a.m. in Gilbert Science Center 241.

Dr. Case has expertise in both mathematics and baseball. He was a pitcher with the Panama City Flyers, a Los Angeles Dodgers farm team. He earned his PhD in differential game theory at the University of Michigan.

Baseball Fever is the theme for the annual Augustana Band Scholarship Concert on Saturday, April 10, in the Great Hall of the Washington Pavilion. The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. features the Augustana Band, Augustana Wind Ensemble, and the Augustana College/Community Concert Band.
