Thursday, May 20, 2010
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Augustana juniors Trent Anderson (Lake Benton, MN) and Erika Jacobson (Lennox, SD) are recipients of The Ralph and Susie Wagoner Student-Faculty Research Awards for 2010-2011.
The Wagoners say one of the strengths of an Augustana educational experience is the opportunity for students to work hand-in-hand with an exceptional group of faculty. Students apply for funding up to $1,000 for projects that may include, but not limited to primary research, artistic exploration, travel, summer work stipend, or publication. All projects must include specific expected outcomes and a faculty mentor.
Trent Anderson is majoring in chemistry, mathematics, and physics. He is the son of Rev. Eugene and Julie Anderson of Lake Benton. He will be working with Dr. Martha Gregg, assistant professor of mathematics. The project is developing a model for the spread of disease on the Augustana campus. Research will begin this summer.
Erika Jacobson is majoring in psychology and sociology. She is the daughter of Harold Jacobson of Lennox, and Sharon Holzer of Sioux Falls. She will be working with Dr. Elizabeth Babcock, assistant professor of psychology. The research will begin this summer. Jacobson and Dr. Babcock will be studying coping styles in dangerous and stressful jobs.
