Professor Emeritus Richard Forman Passes Away at 82

SIOUX FALLS—Dr. Richard W. Forman, professor emeritus of Mathematics, died Wednesday, June 30. He was 82.

Dr. Forman taught at Augustana for 50 years. He joined the College in 1957 and taught various courses in the mathematics department, including algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry, calculus and methods for teaching secondary mathematics. He retired in 2007.

Dr. Forman received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, and earned his doctorate in mathematics and education from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan.

Prior to joining Augustana, Dr. Forman served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the South Dakota National Guard. As a volunteer, he served as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary unit of the U.S. Air Force dedicated to aerospace education, search and rescue efforts and cadet training; and also served as squadron commander for the Joe Foss Senior Squadron.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 6, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
