Class of 2015 Arrives on Campus

With temperatures in the low 60s and a sky full of sunshine, the class of 2015 arrived on campus Sunday morning, ready and excited to start the fall semester.

In Bergsaker Hall, inside freshman Liz Donelan's room, a loaf of homemade banana bread, safely protected in a plastic bag, stood out among the stacks of cardboard boxes, piles of clothes, mounds of shoes and heap of brightly colored plastic tubs.

Comfort food  from her mom, Pam.

Donelan, a Deaf Education major from Wagner, S.D., moved into her new home, and met her new roommate, Emma Konold of Owatonna, Minn., on Sunday. The two had visited by phone on numerous occasions beforehand, and had even talked about dorm room decor in order to make their new pad feel cozy and inviting.

"I'm not too nervous," Donelan said. "I'm more excited than anything."

As Donelan and Konold (pictured below) unpacked, the hallway outside their room echoed with the sounds of other new students, family members and dozens of student ambassadors from Augustana's New Student Orientation (NSO) team who worked throughout the day to assist an estimated 431 new freshmen move into their rooms.

Following move-in, freshmen will attend orientation at the Elmen Center and have dinner with President and First Lady Rob and Angie Oliver.

The College will officially open the 2011-12 academic year at Opening Convocation at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the Elmen Center.
