In The News: Vikings Test Gophers in 'The Barn'

In a recent WCCO-TVLife to the Max” segment, sports personality Mike Max chronicled the Vikings’ Nov. 7 exhibition game against the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers at the iconic Williams Arena – a place known for its hallowed hardwood and nicknamed “The Barn.”

The segment featured Ellsworth, Minn., native Cody Schilling, the 2011-12 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Player of the Year, and Athletic Director Bill Gross, a native of Hayfield, Minn., who recalled his experience playing in “The Barn” as a teen.

The Game
"They are the underdogs and they are motivated. From the opening tip, it’s obvious they didn’t come here as a courtesy call – they came to make a mark, to win a basketball game,” Max says of the Vikings.

And make a mark, they did.

Augustana led by as many as seven points throughout much of the first half, but Minnesota opened the second half on a 15-4 run and extended a two-point lead with seven minutes left. The Gophers won 72-60.
