Three accomplished alumni and one iconic professor fill out the line-up for the Fall 2011 Augustana Thought Leader Forum series. First up, Doug Berven '91, POET's vice president of Corporate Affairs, will discuss "Revolutionizing Energy" on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Rising juniors Kimberly Homan, Hannah Kuelbs, Brennan Olson, and Erika Zetterlund have been selected to receive the prestigious Sophomore Honors Award, an honor that recognizes outstanding achievement, scholarship and character.
This summer, 92 Augustana students are working alongside faculty members and mentors throughout the U.S., exploring and researching everything from platelet-biogenesis to the impact of ultrafast laser pulses on molecular fragmentation – an increase of 54 percent from last year.
Augustana has finished third in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, a program best and the year's highest finish for an NSIC institution. During the 2010-11 season, the College also won the U.S. Bank/NSIC All-Sports Award and captured seven conference crowns.
The summer issue of The Augustana, the magazine for alumni and friends of the College, features the work of alumni, students and faculty who are paving new frontiers in science, medicine and research, including 1978 grads Dr. Tom Braithwaite and Dr. Patrick Casey.
Thanks to a new Service Learning grant, 30 Augustana education majors who volunteer to conduct their student teaching in high-needs classrooms will now be eligible to receive a $2,000 voucher good toward their outstanding student loans or graduate school.
Dr. Ivan Fuller, professor of theatre and chair of Augustana's Performing and Visual Arts Department, has been named Associate Dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts at Rider University. In his new role, Fuller will also serve as Chair of Rider’s Department of Theater, Music Theater and Dance.
The chancel facade at the new Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls features a 24-panel ecclesiastical stained-glass design, created by Augustana's Scott Parsons, assistant professor of art. "It is .. my hope that this design will resonate with each viewer as a celebratory offering of thanksgiving for all that God has given to us," Parsons has said.
With the rain crashing down and water gushing through the streets, Larry Kraemer and Kent Wilson raced to rescue a man trapped in his car near the Elmen Center yesterday afternoon.
Called a "guiding light for the Art Department and for Augustana College," Robert Aldern, professor emeritus of Art, former department chair and Artist-in-Residence, died on Saturday, June 11. He was 82. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
