Anthropology Students Turn Pumpkins into Art

Students in the Anthropology department's "Primitive Art" course turned pumpkins into art during an evening class earlier this week. The students carved the pumpkins to replicate primitive art (mask) designs. Learn more and view photos.

Evening with Maya Angelou Canceled

The "Evening with Dr. Maya Angelou" set for Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Elmen Center has been canceled. Representatives for Angelou said the renowned poet and writer is suffering from exhaustion and was advised by doctors to cancel the event.

When they signed up for an early-October field trip to the Black Hills, students in Dr. Craig Spencer's "Principles of Ecology" course were expecting to climb Harney Peak, study the wildlife in Custer State Park and hike through the Badlands. Mother Nature, however, had other plans.

Augustana Ranked High for Academic and Athletic Success

Augustana ranks high in both academics and athletics in the 11th annual NCSA Athletic Recruiting Collegiate Power Rankings. The College is ranked eighth among NCAA Division II schools, No. 85 among 1,066 active NCAA member schools and is the only school listed in the overall top 100 from South Dakota.

Hicks's Novel Published

“The Commandant of Lubizec,”a novel by Augustana Writer-in-Residence and Chair of the English and Journalism department Dr. Patrick Hicks, will be published by Steerforth/Random House in March 2014.

Senior's Research on Health Care Coverage for Farmers Published

“Betting the Farm: Health Coverage, Behaviors and Concerns Among South Dakota Farmers,” a research article by Augustana senior Michael Dulitz (Webster, S.D.) will be featured in the October 2013 issue of South Dakota Medicine, the journal for the South Dakota State Medical Association.
