Welcome to the Class of 2016

It's official: the class of 2016 has arrived on campus!

With music pumping and a sky full of sunshine, new students from across the U.S. moved their sneakers, futons, plastic tubs, rolls of carpet and stacks of clothes into Bergsaker and Solberg Halls Sunday morning, feeling excited and nervous about beginning the next stage of their lives.

After talking by phone and through text messages, Emily Koenen, a freshman athletic training major from Corcoran, Minn., met her roommate, Ashley-Marie Paladie, an elementary education and foreign languages major from St. Charles, Minn., for the first time mid-morning. Meeting her roommate, Koenen said, made the day even more exciting.

“Sure I’m nervous, but I’m excited too – it’s such a mix of emotions,” Koenen said with a laugh as she arranged shirts inside her closet.

As Koenen and Paladie (pictured below) unpacked, the hallway outside their room was whirling with other new students, family members and dozens of student ambassadors from Augustana's New Student Orientation (NSO) team who worked throughout the day to assist the new freshmen move into their rooms.

Following move-in, freshmen will attend orientation and have dinner with President and First Lady Rob and Angie Oliver.

The College will officially open the 2012-13 academic year at Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
