In the News: RAs Get Hands-On Fire Safety Training

On Monday, 45 Augustana resident assistants learned about general fire safety, received training on fire extinguishing, witnessed a live fire demonstration and took part in an evacuation drill during Sioux Falls Fire Rescue's Campus Fire Safety Education day.

Ceremony to Open New Academic Year

Augustana will mark the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year during its Opening Convocation at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Elmen Center. The ceremony will feature a keynote address by Dr. Jetty Duffy-Matzner, associate professor of Chemistry.

Holiday Jam With the Hegg Brothers Set for Dec. 20 in St. Paul

Tickets are now on sale for the St. Paul edition of “Holiday Jam with the Hegg Brothers,” a musical evening of holiday favorites presented by Augustana College, featuring Augustana alumni Jeremy Hegg ’94; Jon Hegg ’99; Noah Hoehn ’02; and Andrew Reinartz ’05.

Augustana to Offer Fall Workshops

Scheduled from September through December 2011, the workshops apply toward undergraduate or graduate college credit and meet teacher certification/re-certification requirements as defined by the South Dakota State Department of Education.

Five Alumni to Receive Achievement Awards at Viking Days

Swart, Gardner Receive Granskou Awards

Dr. William Swart, associate professor sociology, will use the award to will investigate the toll of the economic crisis on the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Shelly Gardner, assistant professor of business administration, will explore how to effectively blend online and classroom teaching.

Theatre Season Opens With 'A Lie of the Mind' Sept. 21

Hailed as Sam Shepard’s richest and most penetrating play and directed by Augustana's own Jayna Fitzsimmons, "A Lie of the Mind" is set in an isolated cabin in rural Montana and explores the disturbing and dangerous tensions that separate two families.

Werner Named Director of Augustana Institutional Research

Darla Werner, class of 1977, has been named Director of Institutional Research. In her new role, Werner will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, reporting and using internal and external data to inform and support institutional decision-making and strategic planning.
