Paulson Named Recipient of 2014 Covenant Award for Excellence

Augustana honored senior Andrew Paulson, a secondary instrumental music education major from Jackson, Minn., with a Covenant Award on Wednesday in recognition of his exemplary commitment to Augustana’s core value of Excellence. The award was presented prior to the student vs. faculty quiz bowl, a segment of Verdier 2014, a week-long celebration the College's five core values.

A significant tradition at Augustana, the Covenant Awards are named in honor of each of the College’s five core values: Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community and Service.

A committee of faculty and staff review nominations from the entire campus community.

Nominees for the Covenant Award for Excellence are those who commit themselves to high virtuous and ethical standards; personal integrity; human excellence; self-discipline; and self-improvement. These nominees are known for bringing out excellence in others. Their commitment to excellence has shaped their plans for the future.

In receiving this award, Paulson was described by his nominators as someone with perseverance and integrity who shows a strong commitment to places he's been called; someone who strives to be exemplary in all things.

Active in campus music ensembles, Paulson is also a participant in Campus Ministry, New Student Orientation and Dance Marathon. Following graduation this May, he plans to attend graduate school for a master’s degree in piano performance. Later, he hopes to teach at the high school level.

He is the son of Garen and Kim Paulson.
