AUGUSTANA SOFTBALL
AUGUSTANA (29-11) hosts the University of Northern Colorado (15-11)
today at Bowden Field. The first game of the scheduled doubleheader
is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
THE VIKINGS compete in the North Central Conference North-South
Tournament Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, at the Riverside SYA
Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.
On Saturday, the Vikings play North Dakota State University at
10:00 a.m.; the University of North Dakota at noon; and Saint Cloud
State University at 4:00 p.m.
Sunday's schedule has the Vikings playing Minnesota State University,
Mankato at 9:00 a.m. and South Dakota State University at 1:00 p.m.
AUGUSTANA split a doubleheader with the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Thursday in Omaha, Neb.
UNO's Krista Unger shut out the Vikings in the opener, 2-0. She
gave up two hits - one each to Megan Faris and Kelly Palmer. Amy
Klyse (17-4) surrendered six hits in the loss.

Tammy Nielsen (12-7) went the distance in the second game, scattering
five hits and striking out seven for a 5-3 win. Robyn
Beske's single scored two runs in the second inning for Augie.
Three unearned runs crossed the plate for Augie in the fifth inning
to seal the win. Katie Kimball and Beske each went 2-for-4.

Junior right-hander AMY KLYSE has been named North Central Conference
pitcher of the week for the second time this season. Klyse was 4-1
last week with a 1.09 ERA over 33 innings. She yielded 24 hits and
registered 40 strikeouts.

HEAD COACH Sandy Jerstad (St. Olaf '66) begins her 26th season
at the Vikings' helm. She has compiled a career record of 918-320-2.
Her teams have won eight North Central Conference titles, competed
in 11 NCAA Division II region tournaments, and won the national
title in 1991. Her teams have won 30 or more games each of the last
17 seasons. In 1998 she was named College Women's Coach of the Year
by the South Dakota Sportswriters' Association.
With her 918 wins, Jerstad is in second place on the NCAA's all-divisions
career softball coaching chart.
AUGUSTANA'S assistant coaches are Jeff Glackler and Jessica Mathys.
