AUGUSTANA SOFTBALL

AUGUSTANA (41-14) hosts Southwest State University (22-20) in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Bowden Field.

THE VIKINGS saw their win streak end at 10 games in the North Central Conference North/South Tournament Saturday at Sauk Rapids, Minn. Sunday's action was canceled because of snow.

Augie's win string was snapped by host Saint Cloud State University, 6-1. Powered by Brooke Gentzler's two-run double, the Huskies (30-8) scored three runs in the first inning. Callie Stewart stroked a solo home run for Saint Cloud in the second inning. Katie Kimball's solo home run in the fifth, her third of the season, provided all of Augie's scoring. Tessa Foth was 2-for-4 and Kimball 2-for-3. Augie pitcher Amy Klyse (23-8) surrendered eight hits and struck out three.

Augustana wasted no time getting back on the winning trail as Tammy Nielsen pitched a two-hit shutout for a 4-0 decision over South Dakota State University. Nielsen (18-6) retired 15 batters on strikes and walked five. Foth's seventh home run of the season, a 3-run shot in the second inning, provided Augie with all the runs it needed. Foth was 2-for-4, while Robyn Beske, Megan Faris, Kristin Nagle, Nielsen, Kimball, and Jen Jarding each picked up a hit.
