AUGUSTANA SOFTBALL
AUGUSTANA (43-14) travels to Wayne, Neb., today for a non-conference
doubleheader with Wayne State College (25-21). Action begins at
4:00 p.m.
AUGIE took both games of a non-conference doubleheader from Southwest
State University Wednesday at Bowden Field, 2-1 and 5-3. The games
were the last home appearances for the Vikings this season.
In the opener, Augie trailed 1-0 going into the sixth inning.
The Vikings evened the count on Kristin Nagle's double and Katie
Kimball's single. Both hits came with two outs. The Vikings ended
the contest in the 11th when Kimball singled and scored on Gian
Hill's single. Hill was 4-for-5, Kimball 2-for-5, and Robyn Beske
2-5. Amy Klyse (24-8) pitched all 11 innings. She gave up six hits,
walked six, and struck out six.
Julie Koenigs stroked a two-run single in the second inning to
get the Vikings rolling in the nightcap. Nagle ripped an RBI triple,
and Tammy Nielsen launched a two-run home to key Augie's three-run
fifth inning. Nielsen was 2-for-3 in addition to going the distance
on the mound. She is now 19-6 for the season after allowing six
hits, three walks, and striking out a dozen Mustang batters.
