Saturday Scrimmage Ends Vikings' Spring Football Sessions
SIOUX FALLS - The Augustana Vikings wrap up their spring football
season Saturday, April 27, with a scrimmage beginning at 10:00 a.m.
on the field adjacent to the Bill Hall Football Complex at 37th
Street and Lake Avenue.
The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
Augustana returns 61 players from the 2001 team that finished
the season with a 5-5 record. Fourteen members of the 2001 squad
completed their collegiate eligibility, including standout wide
receivers Matt Holmlund and Ryan Nodland. Together Holmlund and
Nodland set a NCAA Division II record for most career receptions
by two receivers on the same team.
Sophomore Ryan DeGraff has established himself as the Vikings'
starting quarterback. A year ago, while splitting time under center,
DeGraff passed for 687 yards and seven touchdowns. He completed
56 percent of his throws.
Augie's defensive unit has looked sharp during spring drills and
will be a strength as the Vikings prepare for the 2002 campaign.
The Vikings will play 11 games this fall after adding Lincoln
University of Jefferson City, Mo., to the schedule. Augie opens
the season September 7 at Howard Wood Field against Northern State
University. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
