Augie Men Fifth in North Central Conference Tennis Tournament

SIOUX FALLS - Augustana's men finished fifth in the North Central Conference tennis tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha April 26-28 at Hanscom Park in Omaha.

St. Cloud State University won the championship with 43 points. The University of Northern Colorado was second with 38, Minnesota State University, Mankato, third with 22, South Dakota State University fourth with 20, and Augustana fifth with a dozen points.

Augustana results:

Singles

• No. 1 - Ben Barnes, SDSU, defeated Dusty Hoffman, AC, 7-6, 7-2, 6-1, in the first round. Phil Brauer, MSU, defeated Hoffman, 6-4, 6-2, in the consolation semifinals.
• No. 2 - Troy Brovold, MSU, defeated Frederick Rye-Florentz, AC, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round. Thomas Chiu, SDSU, defeated Rye-Florentz, 6-2, 6-0, in the consolation semifinals.
• No. 3 - Aaron Weippert, AC, defeated Jamie Wieme, SDSU, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round. Casey Haselwander, SCSU, defeated Weippert, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals. Phil Goetstouwers, MSU, defeated Weippert, 7-5, 6-1, for third place.
• No. 4 - Lars Heckman, MSU, defeated James Krueger, AC, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, in the first round. Aaron Rothenberger, SDSU, defeated Krueger, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the consolation semifinals.
• No. 5 - Eric Wang, AC, defeated Lucas Hoover, SDSU, 7-6, 7-4, 6-4, in the first round. Matt Bong, UNC, defeated Wang, 7-6, 7-0, 6-2, in the semifinals. John Sohley, MSU, defeated Wang, 6-1, 6-1, in the third place match.
• No. 6 - Casey Wright, MSU, defeated Mitch Swanson, AC, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. Jeff Everson, SDSU, defeated Swanson, 6-2, 6-0, in the consolation semifinals.

Doubles

• No. 1 - Goetstouwers/Brovold, MSU, defeated Krueger/Weippert, AC, 8-2, in the first round. Barnes/Chiu, SDSU, defeated Krueger/Weippert, 8-1, in the consolation semifinals.
• No. 2 - Wieme-Rothenberger, SDSU, defeated Rye-Florentz/Hoffman, AC, 8-4, in the first round. Brauer/Hoffman, MSU, defeated Rye-Florentz/Hoffman, 8-1, in the consolation semifinals.
• No. 3 - Swanson/Wang, AC, defeated Hendrichson/Holter, MSU, 8-3, in the first round. Bishop.Benshoof, UNC, defeated Swanson/Wang, 8-1, in the semifinals. Hoover/Everson, SDSU, defeated Swanson/Wang, 8-3, for third place.
