AUGUSTANA SOFTBALL
AUGUSTANA (49-18) lost twice to Saint Cloud State
University in the North Central Region tournament
held last weekend in Fargo, N.D.
The Vikings opened the double-elimination meet by
defeating the defending national champion University
of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, 2-1, in 11 innings. Tammy
Nielsen's single to left field scored Megan Faris
with the winning run. Faris singled with one out,
advanced to second on a wild pitch, and reached third
when Kristin Nagle grounded out to second. Each team
had seven hits, but the Vikings survived despite five
errors. Faris was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Amy Klyse went
the distance for Augie, striking out eight and walking
two.
Saint Cloud State's Nicole Webb fired a three-hitter
to lead the Huskies past Augie, 2-1, in a clash of
first-round winners. Robyn Beske and Katie Kimball
each stroked a double for the Vikings.
Webb tossed another three-hitter to eliminate the
Vikings, 3-0. Beske was 2-for-3.
Faris was named to the All-Tournament Team.
