Class of 2022 Arrives on Campus

Class of 2022 on the Kirkeby-Over Stadium field

Representing 18 states and 12 countries, members of the Augustana University Class of 2022 arrived on campus Saturday morning.

Our newest Vikings have set sail on what is sure to be the most transformational voyage of their lifetimes.

Teams of energetic Augustana Viking Guides sporting AU navy T-shirts were on deck to create a smooth boarding process and welcome our new class to their Viking home. Outdoor speakers filled the air with an uplifting beat to keep their feet moving as they made countless trips carrying futons, rolls of carpet, plastic tubs and essential treasures from home. The rooms of Bergsaker, Solberg and Tuve halls all now have their own unique flair. HGTV may have provided some inspiration to at least a few of the most creative makeovers.

Molly Sittig ’20 (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) and Ashley Glanzer ’20 (Mitchell, South Dakota) are serving as the 2018 Welcome Week Co-Chairs. They’ve dedicated countless hours in planning a fun and meaningful week of activities that will foster new friendships and provide valuable insights and learning opportunities for a smooth transition.

This year’s Welcome Week theme is “Add Your Voice.” The goal is to help our newest Vikings find a way to add their voice to Augustana’s community. When asked if she had any advice for the AU Class of 2022, Sittig shared the following, “Augustana University really is the place for possibilities, but you have to be open to the possibilities it offers. Don’t miss out on an excellent opportunity by having a closed mind.” Great advice from the voice of an outstanding AU leader who is charting the course for a successful year.

Additional move-in day activities on Saturday featured a Launch Party and picnic with President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin at Kirkeby-Over Stadium, an Opening Night event at the Elmen Center and a bonfire on the Campus Green.

Augustana's newest Vikings saw the 2018-19 academic year open at Opening Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
