New Vikings Arrive on Campus

Freshman move in to their residence halls at Augustana University

Viking Nation welcomed its newest Vikings — the Augustana Class of 2020 — to campus on Saturday, Aug. 27.

A new voyage begins today for Augustana’s newest Vikings.

Hailing from 19 states and 10 countries, members of the Augustana University Class of 2020 officially moved in to Bergsaker and Solberg halls on Saturday morning.

They brought with them the kind of gear every Viking needs to begin a new journey: a comfy futon, well-worn sneakers, hundreds of t-shirts, an electric fan and some photos from home.

Like all Vikings, they are ready for this adventure to begin.

“I’ve been waiting for this. I’m ready,” said freshman Tristan Love, a religion major from Rapid City.

His roommate, Austin Miller, a Washington High School graduate from Sioux Falls, agreed.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Miller said, of beginning the year and of majoring in business at AU.

Freshman Sarah Stein arrived at Viking Nation from the coast of Oregon. She, too, is looking forward to the year ahead.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time,” Stein, a biology major, said. "I'm excited."

Move-in day activities for Augustana first-year students include a worship service, family orientation, opening ceremonies at Kirkeby-Over Stadium, a picnic with President Rob and Angie Oliver, entertainment and a bonfire on the Campus Green. Welcome Week events and activities will take place throughout the week.
