Augustana graduate Maddie Todd earns a golden ticket for "American Idol"

Singer-songwriter Maddie Todd, Augustana University Class of 2017, has advanced in the "American Idol" audition process.

After her initial audition earlier this week in Fargo, North Dakota, the 23-year-old religion and sociology major received an email from the show's executive producers inviting her to the next round of private auditions in Los Angeles.

She brought part of Augustana with her for the experience — "I wore my AU Viking pin through the entire audition," she said. 

Todd, who serves as an assistant logistics coordinator for Augustana University, visited with Argus Leader reporter Danielle Ferguson about her "American Idol" journey so far. 

Sioux Falls Singer Gets American Idol Golden Ticket to Los Angeles

Maddie Todd had roughly 30 seconds to prove she can sing.

The Sioux Falls woman had already seen 12 people before her sent home this week when an American Idol producer pointed at her to sing Hozier's "Take Me to Church." Her heart was racing during her effort to secure a golden ticket to the show.

"What else you got?" the producer asked.
