President Oliver Recognizes Graduating Student-Athletes from Visiting Schools

Softball Grads

With schools hosting NCAA tournaments during others' would-be commencement weekends, a new tradition has risen. Like other schools have done in recent years, Augustana recognized graduating student-athletes who were missing their graduation ceremonies in order to play in the 2015 NCAA Softball Central Region Tournament

The graduates come from East Central Oklahoma and Winona State.

President Rob Oliver and Dr. Marcia Entwistle stood at home plate of Bowden Field to congratulate the graduating softball players from these schools between games on Friday, May 8. Graduates were encouraged to wear their caps and gowns and were presented to fans and parents one by one down the first-base line.

Commencement 2015 for Augustana is Saturday, May 23, at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Augustana begins NCAA Tournament play as the No. 1 seed and host of the Central Region 1 Tournament this weekend. The Vikings own a record of 50-9 on the season, marking the ninth 50-plus win season in program history, the third under ninth-year head coach Gretta Melsted. Augustana is making its 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance, including its sixth straight trip.
