SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College’s Department of Campus Safety is hosting the Mid-America Regional Conference of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) April 30-May 3 at the Holiday Inn City Centre.
The keynote speaker is Julie Myers, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Myers leads the largest investigative component of DHS, which is the second largest investigative agency of the federal government with more than 15,000 employees, 6,000 investigators, and an annual budget of more than $4 billion. She speaks at the conference banquet on Tuesday, May 2.
Myers has also served as the special assistant to the President for Presidential Personnel, assistant secretary for Export Enforcement at the Department of Commerce, chief of staff for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice, deputy assistant secretary for Money Laundering and Financial Crimes at the Treasury Department, and as an assistant United States Attorney for the District of New York.
The Mid-America IACLEA represents police chiefs and directors of public safety agencies from 265 colleges and universities in 13 states.
Rick Tupper, senior director of Campus Life at Augustana College, is coordinating the conference. The conference theme is based on homeland security issues and the college campus. Instructors from a number of federal law enforcement agencies and leading universities will be conducting the seminars.
