SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College’s inaugural undergraduate conference on gender and sexuality will be held Saturday, April 8.
“Interse(x)ctions” begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. in the Morrison Commons Siverson Lounge.
Dr. Margaret Preston, assistant professor of history at Augustana, delivers the ketnote address at 10:00 a.m. in the Siverson Lounge. Her presentation is “Degraded, Rejected and Despised: Gender and how the Language of Philanthropy is Less Than Charitable.”
Student presentations begin at 10:45 a.m. and continue through 5:30 p.m. All presentations will be in Madsen Center rooms 201 and 202. Students from Augustana, University of Sioux Falls, University of South Dakota, and Dakota Wesleyan University are participating.
A conference dinner at 6:00 p.m. (pre-registration required) is followed by a theatrical performance by Augustana students Brianna Gearhart, Jared Miller and Lauren Ostermiller begins at 8:30 p.m. in the Morrison Commons Back Alley. “I Am Your Image of Reality: A Social Criticism of the Mass Media Influence on the Body Image of Young Women and Men” is the title of the presentation.
The conference concludes with a dance in the Back Alley beginning at 10:00 p.m.
With the exception of the dinner, all activities are free and open to the public.
