SIOUX FALLS – Sarah Ochsner, a senior from Herreid, S.D., is the recipient of the Covenant Award for Excellence.
She is majoring in education of the deaf and hard of hearing, secondary education, and English. She is a Dean’s List student, a Fulbright Scholar finalist, and will graduate summa cum laude in May.
The daughter of Tom and Bonnie Ochsner, Sarah is active in Bread for the World, sings in the Augustana Choir, and frequently volunteers her time for those in need.
A classmate described Ochsner as a caring and passionate advocate for social justice, is aware of problems such as hunger and poverty, and is determined to find solutions.
One of her teachers said, “There have been precious few people I’ve come to know, in over 30 years of teaching, that have a heart as large as Sarah Ochsner; a sense of empathy for others that can truly consume her.”
A tradition at Augustana, the Covenant Award is presented five times a year, one for each of the college’s core values – Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, Service.
