SIOUX FALLS – International opera singer Elias Mokole will be in residence at Augustana College February 21-25.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Mokole will conduct three different vocal master classes and perform a solo recital. All events are free and open to the public.
“English Diction in Solo Performance” is the focus of the first master class/lecture to be held Tuesday, February 21, from 3:00-3:50 p.m. in Humanities Center room 173.
The second master class/lecture will emphasize “communicative singing” and features selected vocal students from Augustana. The class is Wednesday, February 22, from 8:00-10:00 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall in the Humanities Center.
“French Diction in Solo Performance” is the title of the third master class/lecture on Thursday, February 23, from 3:00-3:50 p.m. in Kresge.
Mokole, a baritone, gives a solo recital on Saturday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge. The title is “American in Paris” and features the work of French and American composers.
Mokole’s residency is possible through grants and funding by the Augustana Music Department, Sioux Falls Area Chapter of Music Teacher’s Association, Sioux Falls Area Community Foundations, Augustana College Concert and Lecture Committee, and the Mellon Foundation.
Highlights of Mokole’s performances include principal roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Washington Opera, Minnesota Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Opera Arizona, Baltimore Opera, Tulsa Opera, Theatre National d’ Alger (Africa), Hawaii Opera Theatre, and Caracas Opera (Venezuela).
