History as service: Jamming on Jazz and Jambalaya

SIOUX FALLS – The History Department at Augustana College is hosting a benefit dinner for the victims of last summer’s hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, in the Morrison Commons 3-in-1 room.

The evening includes dinner in the style of New Orleans, music by members of the Northlanders Jazz Band, and presentations by three Augustana students from Dr. Margaret Preston’s Modern European History class. The students are Brandon Hunt (Rapid City, SD), Elizabeth Thrond (Wells, MN), and Ben Zierke (Wyoming, MN).

Hurricane Katrina’s destruction on the gulf coast caught the attention of the entire nation. The events of Summer 2005 ignited community aid, but the disastrous consequences remain. The goal of the Augustana event is to challenge students creatively about how history can serve us.

Tickets are $12 for adults / $8 for students.
Proceeds from the event go the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Domestic Disaster Response.
The event is open to the public.

To ensure a reservation, return checks [made out to Augustana College] by February 20 to:
