SIOUX FALLS – Two groups of Augustana College students will be participating in Spring Break Service Learning Trips March 27-31.
One group is driving to Ocean Springs, MS, to aid in relief efforts sponsored by Lutheran Disaster Response. They will be based at Corpus Victor, a church being used as a headquarters for disaster response. Their service will include clean up, working in the food kitchen to feed volunteers, working in the distribution center as well as health clinics.
A second group of students is headed to New York City, where they will volunteer in two churches – Advent Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran. They will prepare and serve meals to the homeless, and help in the food pantry. Rev. Elise Brown, the pastor at Advent Lutheran, graduated from Augustana in 1986.
Sarah Sumner-Eisenbraun from the Chapel of Reconciliation and Kim Davison from the Admission Office are the advisors accompanying the group bound for Mississippi. The students are Sandy Schroeder (Granville, IA, student leader), Jackie Smith (Philip, SD, student leader), Elizabeth Davis (Spencer, IA), Krista Monson (Lake Crystal, MN), Jenna Davies (Rapid City, SD), Mariko Hattori (Japan), Holly Joyce (Sioux Falls), Brynn Brandt (Henderson, MN), and Amanda Korth (Forest City, IA).
Mary Toso, director of Alumni Relations, is the advisor for the New York City group. The students are Marit Karbowski (Shoreview, MN, student leader), Angela Shubert (Crookston, MN, student leader), Katie Hoyme (Omaha, NE), Janie Sershen (Chester, SD), Shelby Eykyn (Worthington, MN), Jessica Klein (Dell Rapids, SD), Heidi Shubeck (Beresford, SD), Rachel Stangler (Albany, MN), Miranda Wagner (South Heart, ND) and BryAnn Becker (Pierre, SD).
