SIOUX FALLS - Dr. Reynold Nesiba, associate professor of economics, is the
recipient of the 2005-2006 Augustana Student Association Faculty Recognition Award.
The award recognizes outstanding teaching and contributions to the Augustana
community by a faculty member. Junior Paula Wheeler, chair of the ASA Curriculum
Council, presented the award during chapel services on Friday, May 5.
The citation described Nesiba as a professor who makes time for all Augie
students, and not just those in his classes. His conduct reflects the five fundamental
values of the college, and is a shining example of what makes Augie professors an
important and integral part of the community.
“This professor is not only effective in the classroom, but active in the Augie
community,” said Wheeler. “He is a faculty advisor for the Augustana Coalition for
Social Justice and also leads study abroad trips to Australia and Nicaragua. He is also
willing to take the time to talk with you, whether it is about class or pondering the
meaning of life.”
Dr. Nesiba began teaching at Augustana in 1995. He received his BA from the
University of Denver, and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.
Also nominated for the award were Michael Mullin, history; Jeff Johnson, history;
Murray Haar, religion; Cheryl Jackson, English; Patrick Hicks, English; and Peter
Schotten, government/international affairs.
