Augustana College’s 146th Commencement Service is May 21

SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College’s 146th Commencement Service begins at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Sioux Falls Arena.

President Bruce Halverson will carry out one his final official functions of the school year as he confers degrees on the 374 participating members of the Class of 2006. Halverson, a 1966 graduate of Augustana, is retiring at the end of July after a six-year term as president.

Rev. Dr. David Tiede, President Emeritus at Luther Seminary, will give the commencement address and receive the Doctor of Humane Letters Degree.

Helen Madsen of Sioux Falls, who along with her late husband, Lou Madsen, provided the naming gift for the Madsen Center, will receive the Friend of Augustana Award for her generous support and loyalty to Augustana.

The Pinning Ceremony for the nursing class of 2006 will be held in the Chapel of Reconciliation on Saturday, May 20, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Baccalaureate Worship begins at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, May 21, in the Elmen Center. Campus Pastor, Rev. Paul Rohde, will preside.

Augustana, a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has been recognized as a “top ten regional liberal arts college” and a “best buy” by U.S. News & World Report. The John Templeton Foundation has also named the college to its Honor Roll of Character-Building Colleges. In addition, Augustana is identified in Peterson’s Competitive Guide as “one of America’s leading colleges.” Augustana is also one of the 170 colleges named “Best in the Midwest” by The Princeton Review.
