SIOUX FALLS - Dr. Scott Fish, associate professor of modern foreign languages (French), has been elected national president of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society.
Founded at UC-Berkeley in 1906, Pi Delta Phi is one of the oldest academic honor societies in the United States and currently has more than 330 chapters and 60,000 members. A member of the Association of College Honor Societies, Pi Delta Phi aims to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literatures, to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and to stimulate and to encourage French and francophone cultural activities.
To that end, Pi Delta Phi offers several full scholarships for summer study in France.
Augustana’s chapter, Mu Alpha, was established in 1997 and is the only chapter in South Dakota.
Dr. Fish has served as the society’s North Central vice president since 2002.
