Augustana Hosting Norwegian Constitution Day Festivities

SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College is celebrating Norwegian Constitution Day on Wednesday, May 17, with a variety of activities.

The celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. with a brunch in the Morrison Commons 3-in-1 room. Norwegian students will present a program featuring speakers, traditional folk dancing, music, and Norwegian poems.

Following brunch, a children’s parade with music and flags will process from the 3-in-1 room around the campus and end at the statue of Ole the Viking. Cakes and lefse will be served and lawn games played.

The day’s activities are coordinated by Augustana’s Association of Norwegian Students Abroad. All events are open to the public.

The cost for brunch is $12 for adults, $5 for children 12-and-under. Tickets are available at the Morrison Commons front desk, or by calling the Augustana box office at 274-4613. Space is limited and reservations by May 15 are encouraged.

May 17 commemorates the day in 1814 when Norway’s constitution was signed and is traditionally celebrated with school marching bands leading processions of children along with games, entertainment, and food.
