SIOUX FALLS – For the sixth year, Dr. Paul Schilf has accepted an invitation to participate in Lutheran youth summer conferences.
The conferences, Higher Things: For You, will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., July 24-27, and in Asherville, N.C., July 31-August 3.
Schilf will compose the liturgical brass arrangements for worship and conduct the brass ensembles at these two gatherings. These five-day conferences are designed for high school students and include brass ensembles ranging from 15 to 30 members.
The mission of Higher Things is to assist parents, congregations, and pastors in cultivating and promoting a Lutheran identity among youth through conferences, retreats, publications, and the internet.
Dr. Schilf served in a similar capacity at conferences in Duluth (2002), Dallas (2003), Seattle (2004), Saint Louis 2005, and Colorado Springs (2006).
In July, Dr. Schilf will direct the Augustana Northlanders Jazz Band for its first-ever appearance on the main stage at JazzFest 2007 in Sioux Falls. The Northlanders are scheduled to play at noon on Saturday, July 21, with special guest artist Chris Vadala.
Dr. Schilf, assistant professor of music, also conducts the Augustana Brass Choir and the College Community Band.
