SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College presents the annual Concerto-Aria Concert beginning at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd Street .
The concert features solo performances by Augustana student musicians, who were selected through a juried process. The Augustana College and Community Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Scott Johnson, and members of the South Dakota Symphony Chamber Orchestra, will also play. A free-will donation will be accepted at the door.
Each year the Augustana music department hosts an in-house competition for student musicians. The students compete before a panel of three adjudicators not associated with Augustana. This year, seven students were selected by the panel to perform with the orchestra and will present a varied and interesting selection of works.
The featured Augustana students are:
* Junior pianist Mairead Kelly (Forest City, Iowa) performing George Gershwin’s Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra.
* Junior soprano Alyssa Nance (Sioux Falls) singing Waltz Song from Romeo et Juliette by Charles Gounod.
* Junior flutist Tasha Nelson (Westbrook, MN) playing Night Soliloquy by Kent Kennan.
* Senior trombonist Holly Pusch (Chancellor, SD) playing Sonatina by Kazimievz Serocki.
* Senior saxophonist Jennifer Fisher (Northwood, SD) playing Concerto in E flat for Saxophone and String Orchestra by Alexander Glazunov.
* Senior soprano Bethany Leland (Bricelyn, MN) signing Jewel Song from Faust by Charles Gounod.
* Senior pianist Mariko Hattori (Japan) playing Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.
