Augustana Student Awarded National Scholarship

SIOUX FALLS – Augustana sophomore Charles Buehler from Sioux City, Iowa, has been awarded one of four national scholarships for study abroad by Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society.

Buehler, who is majoring in French and English, was awarded a full scholarship for summer study at the prestigious Université de Laval in Québec, one of Canada’s top-ten research institutions. Laval was founded as a seminary in 1663 by Monseigneur Francois de Laval, the first bishop of New France.

Buehler is the first Pi Delta Phi recipient for South Dakota, and one of the only award winners from the Midwest in the past decade. He is a member of the Mu Alpha chapter of Pi Delta Phi at Augustana.

Pi Delta Phi was established in 1906 to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literatures, to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and to stimulate and to encourage French and francophone cultural activities

A Dean’s List student, Buehler is the son of Rosada Parsley of Sioux City. He is a graduate of Sioux City North High School.

Augustana is a selective, residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Central to its mission are five shared core values: Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, and Service. The College is an acknowledged leader in undergraduate higher education in the northern plains region.
